I was first contacted by Charlotte nearly 2 years ago, she enquired about her wedding that I believe was to take place in 2008. I sent her my pricing, we swapped emails and then nothing, literally nothing. I was quite surprised as our chats on email were friendly and she seemed really keen. A year later Charlotte contacted me again, again we chatted and this time we spoke on the phone. Charlotte had been severely ill with a brain tumour, the tumour was on the stem of her brain, which made it in-operable and the only treatment being chemotherapy. Thankfully the chemo has worked and Charlotte was now recovering, and trying to plan her dream wedding again, and wanted to book my services.

When my father died in 1999, Max, my godfather, and my Dad’s best friend, became my surrogate father, taking his duties as my godfather very seriously, we are very close, so close that Max my son is named after him. On 15th May 2009 Max’s son Jarrod, and a lifelong friend of mine, died after 18 months battling a brain tumour. His wife Annie and 3 children, Elliot, Lawrie and Ava are constantly in my thoughts.

All of my fee for Charlotte’s wedding was donated to The Samantha Dixon Brain Tumour Trust, who cared for Jarrod throughout his illness.

Leigh and Natasha were married at the lovely Barnsley House in Cirencester. It had been quite a week for me, and at one stage I was panicking that I would never get there. Anita and I and the 2 children went to Euro Disney for a 4 day break, we were lucky enough not to get stuck in the Euro Tunnel, but instead queued for 5 hours to get to Folkstone, eventually arriving in Paris. As soon as we got to Paris , Euro Tunnel stopped their trains and snow blizzards fell constantly on the Euro Disney Park. We made the decision to leave a day early and drove back to Devon, via the ferry. Thank God we made it back safely and I was then able to drive to Cirencester to shoot the wedding.

Leigh and Natasha’s wedding was an intimate affair, with close family and friends making the treacherous journey from all parts of the country to be with them. Natasha’s family are a competitive bunch, especially with board games and after the wedding breakfast everyone took part in a giant game of Pictionary, I have to admit I have never seen emotions run that high over a drawing game before…

I was helped on this shoot by Tom Weller, a great photographer from the Oxford area.
